This was probably the biggest obstacle for me in figuring out how to
save quality vids in VS 10, since the "Share" feature only has limited
save options. The following tutorial will show you how to make saving
templates that you can use for all your videos. First, make sure you have installed the Windows Media 9 Series codecs. Without these codecs, you won't have nearly as many saving options available. With Ulead open, go to the "Make Movie Templates Manager" in "Tools" to create saving templates for your vids. Click "New" to begin creating your template. Choose a file format and give your template a name. For example, I chose Windows Media Video and called my template "WMV 640x360 High Quality" which I use for widescreen vids. Once you've named your template, click the "Profiles" tab in "Template Options." The drop-down menu has all your save options along with their descriptions. Click "Customize" to create your own saving profiles. Now you're in "Manage Profiles." Click "New" and give your profile a name. Here, I've called mine "WMV 640x360 High Quality" to match my template name. Under "Media Types" check the "Audio" and "Video" boxes. I use CBR modes for both, Windows Media Audio 9.2 and Windows Media Video 9. Click "Add..." for a target bit rate. Enter 1000K and the next tab opens up for you. For my profile, I have the following: Audio Format: 96 kbps, 44 kHz, stereo CBR Video size: 640x360 Frame rate: 29.97 fps, Key frame interval 4 sec Video bit rate: 1000Kbps Buffer size: 5 seconds Video Smoothness: 100 Decoder complexity: Auto Go back to the "General" tab and you'll notice your target bit rate has changed and that the Video format is "Custom." This should be okay. I leave the "Allow interlaced processing" and "Allow nonsquare pixel output" boxes unchecked (based on standard Ulead save profiles). Click "OK" and you have a new profile. Click "Close" to go back to "Template Options." Now you can click the drop-down menu to find your save profile. Keep the "Apply preprocessing if possible" checked, and for widescreen videos, the "Display aspect ratio" is 16:9. Click "OK" then click "Close" in "Make Movie Templates Manager." You now have a template to save high quality widescreen videos. Once you have finished editing your vid, click the "Share" tab followed by "Create Video File." Your new template should be in the menu that opens. You can now create separate templates for different quality videos. Make sure that your profiles match your templates! (I've accidentally rendered full screen vids in widescreen and vice versa when I started out.) For fullscreen at 4:3, the standard video size is 640x480. You can also choose 320x240 (320x180 for widescreen) for smaller video files. If your target bit rate is at least 512 kbps for 320 videos (double for 640), then you should have pretty decent video files with the WMV compression schemes. |
